Description: The Story of a Glass Skyline
A true luminous sculpture, this "Skyscraper" lamp is a tribute to the bold architecture of the 1930s and a perfect embodiment of the Machine Age aesthetic. Its geometric silhouette, known as "Streamline Moderne," graphically replicates the architectural setbacks mandated by the 1916 zoning laws for the nascent skyscrapers of New York and Chicago.
A Unique Luminous Dynamic
When turned off, the lamp features enhanced relief where the clear and frosted facets play with the ambient light. Once illuminated, the contrast is striking: the transparent areas act as "windows" that release bright bursts of light, while the frosted sections diffuse a soft, muted glow. This dynamic masterfully reinforces the analogy of a building at night, creating a vibrant, miniature city. This radical and fascinating aesthetic transcends eras: an identical model appears in the set design of the Netflix series Kaleidoscope, where its geometry enhances an atmosphere of modern and mysterious luxury.
Galerie POPINCOURT's Note:
The Rare Detail: The "Frosted / Crystalline" Contrast While most Skyscraper globes of the era are uniformly frosted, this particular piece boasts a selective finish that alternates between satin zones and crystalline edges. At nightfall, the lamp comes alive with a unique rhythm, transforming the object into a true Manhattan skyscraper. A radical aesthetic that stands the test of time.
